STATEMENT

My approach is to look slowly, mostly at the landscape, often over time, always nearby.

I search for a quality of composition and light that somehow creates a bridge between abstraction and the actual.

This quality is ever present in my mind, but elusive. Something happens to the commonplace when found.

If successful, I hope my photographs can be seen as both mysterious and intimate.

PROCESS

I make analog black and white contact prints with an 8x10 inch view camera, hand printed in a traditional darkroom.

A print is final only when my relationship with it is without conflict.  This often takes years.
